MCCNA EVENTS

On Wednesday, May 13, over 100 residents of the Marin Country Club community came together to launch a new neighborhood association! Organizers and board members of the new Marin Country Club Neighborhood Association shared their inspirations and intentions with interested guests, with many joining and signing up to participate in events and programs. With those who signed up, we now have 67 members.

Taking place at Good Shepherd Lutheran School, courtesy of MCC resident and church leader Dan Christian, neighbors and friends arrived early to socialize before the meeting and initiate a long-term solution for creating wider community connection.

Guests were presented with community updates and suggestions for bringing the neighborhood together. Many residents shared their ideas as well. Topics included:

• Social events/community building
• Emergency preparation
• Fire prevention
• Traffic concerns
• Community communications

The meeting included brief talks by founders and board members, including:

• Len Shaw, a 56-year resident who explained how he and his wife, Judie, called for the organization to be formed, after years of neighborhood advocacy
• Gary Jones, a 55-year resident and board president, who emphasized the need for social connection and communication
• Mark Scardina, who lent his expertise to formalizing the new org and establishing our digital presence, including a new website
• DeeDee Roth, who recognized service people and neighbors she has met walking around the neighborhood over the past several years
• Ron Roth, former SF police captain, shared our commitment to supporting public safety by introducing leaders from Novato Fire

Fire Chief Dan Peters and Fire Marshal Lynne Osgood shared insights on fire prevention and community planning. They emphasized the need for clearing growth away from structures as they explained what their teams are doing to establish a buffer zone around the neighborhood. They encouraged considering becoming a Fire Safe community and for everyone to sign up for AlertMarin to receive community messages. Enhancing community safety is a priority commitment of the organizing group.

The meeting wound up with emcee and 23-year resident Kevin Bartram reviewing ideas for community engagement, leading into an open discussion and board member Q&A.

Board members will reconvene and follow up with those who attended, joined, and/or requested more information.
